Practice English Through Everyday Conversation

Short, regular conversations can help you practice listening and phrasing; choose supportive partners and treat mistakes as part of learning.

Speaking a language improves with practice, but practice does not need to feel like an exam. A short conversation about a familiar topic can help you get used to listening, responding, and asking for clarification.

Choose a manageable topic

Talk about a daily routine, a favorite meal, a film, or a hobby. Prepare a few words you would like to use, but allow the conversation to wander. When you do not understand something, try: “Could you say that more slowly?” or “What does that word mean here?”

Focus on communication

Mistakes are normal. Notice one thing you learned after each practice session instead of trying to correct every sentence while speaking. You can also repeat a phrase in your own words to check that you understood.

Choose patient conversation partners and protect your personal information as you would in any online chat. Language practice should feel respectful and voluntary for both people.
